A Roof Over Your Head
Many years ago, after a visit to the Baqa'a Refugee Camp in Jordan, it was a real eye-opener to the fact that there are families who suffer incredibly in the winter as their roofs leak and lets in cold air, causing sickness as a result. What so many of us take for granted, having a roof over your head, is a blessing many does not share. This lies at the heart of Frmtoo, our mission to fix roofs.
Despite Jordan being a relatively hot country, rain and cold temperatures is very common in the winter. For a period of about 4 months of the year, many families struggle with flooding, cold winds, humidity and leaking roofs.
We want to try and make a difference, installing zinc roofs that serves the purpose of keeping rain out. Below are examples of families we are helping. While we can extend cash contributions to these families, we feel that helping them install a new roof, as opposed to giving outright cash, not only ensures that donations are properly spent, but it is also charity wrapped with dignity.
abu ehab’s Roof
Abu Ehab was born in the Camp in 1973 and is married with 3 children. He takes small jobs whenever he can, but work is sporadic and scarce. Their roof is appalling, leaking when it rains, and when sunny, we can see through the holes in the roof. We want to change that!

Um Mohammed’s Roof.
Um and Abu Mohammed is an elderly couple who lives together with their son and their family. While the house is clean and tidy, their kitchen suffers from chemical smells due to the roof being made out of asbestos sheets, known to be unfit as a building material due to their cancerous properties. We would love to help this family by changing the roof in their kitchen.

Um majd’s Roof
Um Majd is the first wife in a polygamous marriage and a mother of three daughters. Her husband works as a construction worker with very sporadic income. Um Majd lives in a very simple one room house with a small courtyard that connects to their kitchen and bathroom. Several years ago, they started working on building an additional room, but money ran out and the work that has been done already will need to be redone. We are helping Um Majd complete this second room, which includes installing a simple but functional roof made of zinc sheets.
